On the morning of 26 August 2026, a wall of water, ice and mud came down from the Himalayas without warning. Flash floods and debris flows struck dozens of settlements along a 72 km stretch of the Trishuli River, sweeping away homes, roads and bridges in minutes. Families who had lived in these valleys for generations lost everything they owned in a single morning. Wikipedia It is now Nepal's deadliest disaster in over a decade. At least 1,451 people have died and 5,745 are still missing. At least 84,270 people have been affected, around 32,000 of them children. The rescue phase is ending, and the news cameras are leaving. But for the families left behind, the hardest part is just beginning. Survivors in Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading have been cut off from urgent care, with roads, bridges, water systems and health facilities destroyed. Many are living in temporary shelters, with little food and no clean water. And winter is coming. In these hill districts, nights turn bitterly cold within weeks, and a family without warm clothes or blankets is in real danger. unicef Ujala Hope Foundation's own team and volunteers are going to Nepal to deliver help directly to the families who need it most.
